SPREADING CHRISTMAS CHEER TO LESS FORTUNATE CHILDREN
Over the Christmas holidays, Boitumelo Foundation spread Christmas cheers to over 600 children across settlements in Botswana. A donation of Christmas Food for 4 settlements and 450 food hampers for children residing in the Kweneng Basarwa Settlements was made to AAP Home Based Care & Family Life Programme (“AAP”). The Masiela Trust received 193 food hampers for children in 5 settlements in the Kgalagadi. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chairman Ramachandram Ottapathu reiterated the mission and vision of the Boitumelo Foundation and further acknowledged the 2 recipient organisations for their dedication to serving the underprivileged. Veronica Dabutha of the Masiela Trust Fund (MTF) Botswana, a child serving organisation that focuses on advocacy for children’s rights and to raise financial aid for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), reminded us all that the communities/settlements served are in hard to reach areas and in dire need of anything that can be donated – basic day-to-day necessities such as food, school supplies, clothing etc. She further commented that being settlements, many of the people living there are considered stateless and cannot access services as they do not have any form of identity. AAP Home Based Care & Family Life Programme (“AAP”) is an organization that sees as its purpose gathering funds to assist underprivileged children. Speaking at the handover ceremony Mrs. Rampa, AAP’s Coordinator said, “we are committed to the welfare and development of these children through the provision of food, clothing and any other form of support that we are able to offer to approximately 2334 children from birth.
